Teachers at Inanda Seminary follow the assessment procedure as prescribed by the curriculum and policy documents as a minimum standard. We do, however, encourage teachers to do as many assessments as possible in a term.
Inanda Seminary has two main types of assessment throughout a term:
1. Formative assessment
This type of assessment includes class tests, homework, assignments, projects and book marks and is done as often as possible.
2. Summative assessment
This type of assessment includes CASS tests (written every Monday in controlled conditions), Control tests (written in March and September), and Examinations (Written in June and November)
FET
In the FET (grade 10-12) phase the assessment is weighted as follows:
Term 1 - 3
- Formative 25%, Summative 75%
Final year mark:
- November examination 75%, all marks accumulated throughout the year 25%
GET
In the GET (grade 8 & 9) phase the assessment is weighted as follows:
Term 1 - 3
- Formative 40%, Summative 60%
Final year mark:
- November examination 60%, all marks accumulated throughout the year 40%

Reporting:
Academic reports are sent out at the end of every term. Parent/teacher interviews will be held during Term 2 each year.
Academic Awards:
An academic awards assembly is held at the beginning of every term to honour the students who achieved and worked hard in the previous term.
Awards are given in the following categories:
- Merit (Over 80%)
- Diligence
- Improvement
