Boarding

As a full boarding school, Inanda Seminary aims to provide a home-from-home for the members. There are many advantages to boarding.

  • Independence & Resilience are fostered by members having to manage themselves and deal with the challenges they face;
  • Lifelong friendships are forged in the intensity of living close to others; of course, there are inevitable conflicts, but learning to deal with these are an essential relationship skill.
  • As there is no need for daily commuting, there is more time for study, recreational activities and relationships, no need to make frequent use of public transport and/or congested traffic routes.
  • Inanda Seminary provides a safe environment with 24/7 onsite security, electrified fencing and cameras. Being all-girls also makes it safe for girls to be themselves.
  • Access to WiFi is available across the campus, with access times carefully managed, and all members can use the school-owned Chromebooks, so parents do not need to buy expensive laptops or tablets.

Committees

Various committees are an essential part of the smooth running of the hostels. These also provide leadership opportunities for the members, mainly matrics but also members from other grades.

Dorm leaders help to manage the various hostels, while the Evening Study group supervise the girls as they study and do homework in the classrooms after supper.

The Food committee deals with the dining hall and makes recommendations about the menu while the Entertainment committee helps with arranging the various events that make the boarding experience more enjoyable.

Other committees assist with welcoming new members and helping them settle into boarding, and also with providing hospitality to parents and other visitors on special occasions.

Events

We always start the year by having an opening bash. The Matric Dance takes place during the term 1 mid-term break. Our Valentine's Dinner is an enjoyable event for all the girls. At the start of term 2, we celebrate our school birthday and all enjoy a slice of cake.  Our heritage day is a special day on campus, full of different traditional outfits and special food prepared by the kitchen. The year closes off with the annual Christmas Dinner.

Students' Christian Fellowship

An important part of the life of the school is the central role of our commitment to our faith. Although there is chapel during the week and on sundays, the SCF meets on Friday evenings and provides a less formal avenue for girls to express their faith.  They come together for prayers and bible study.  At the end of the year, a thanksgiving service is organised at which all SCF members can come together to celebrate God’s goodness throughout the year.
